A century on, the strike that shook Britain comes to life on stage – and it’s now just weeks away.

May 1926. Millions of workers across the country walked out, standing shoulder to shoulder for a fairer world. To mark the one hundredth anniversary of the 1926 General Strike, ‘Centenary’ celebrates the event at the Glasshouse International Centre for Music in Gateshead.

Created by Wisecrack Productions, the team behind Hadaway Harry, Mr Corvan’s Music Hall, The Great Joe Wilson, Wor Bella, and The Cramlington Train Wreckers; this brand-new show mixes songs, sketches, satire and stand-up to tell the story of working-class struggles from the Napoleonic Wars to the present day, including the 1926 General Strike.

Wisecrack Productions are also hosting walks and talks free of charge near the site of the Cramlington train crash – we covered the story previously here – to mark its centenary on Sunday 10 May. The events start at Alexandra Park in Cramlington (NE23 6EL) at noon, 1pm, and 2pm.

The team will also be performing their show, The Cramlington Train Wreckers, at the Derry Playhouse (8 July), Belfast Waterfront Hall (9 July), and finally the Newcastle Theatre Royal (12 July) following a sell-out tour.
