Jenkins, Healey, and Crosland: ‘The Gang of Three’ on stage

‘The Gang of Three’: Roy Jenkins, Denis Healey, Tony Crosland: three brilliant friends, three bitter rivals – and all three convinced they should lead the Labour Party. Now, an acclaimed drama, and available for booking on a national tour.

Labour historians might be all too familiar with the intricate details, machinations, and history of the three leading Labour Party figures – Roy Jenkins, Denis Healey, and Tony Crosland – but few will have anticipated its adaptation into a play. Robert Khan and Tom Salinsky’s political drama follows Crosland, Healey, and Jenkins through the crises and intrigues of the 1970s, from the Treasury to the toppling of prime ministers, in a fast, funny, and very human portrait of ambition and friendship. Khan and Salinksky hope it will interest people who know that history well.

The play had a sell-out run at the King’s Head Theatre in 2025. It is now on a national tour.
