The organisers are pleased to announce an open call for submissions to the 2026 editions of the Social History Curators Group journal and conference, under the theme of ‘The Long March – Strikes, Protests and Riots Through History’.
Inspired by the centenary of the 1926 General Strike, this year’s theme invites papers that examine how museums and heritage sites engage with stories of strike, protest, rebellion, and resistance. The organisers are interested in contributions that consider both the immediate and enduring effects of such events on individuals and communities, and how these impacts can be identified, interpreted, and made visible through museum practice.
Whether you are a museum professional, researcher, academic or none of the above, the conference and journal are open to you. You do not have to be a member of SHCG to contribute to either the journal or the conference.
Please submit your idea/abstract here (you will be able to indicate whether you would like to submit to the journal or conference): SHCG Conference and Journal 2026 Submissions
The extended deadline for submissions is Friday 27 February 2026. You will be contacted about your submission in March 2026.
For more detailed information on both the journal and the conference, including contact details, deadlines and what to include in your submission, please see the full call for submissions here.
