Speakers at panel sessions include Dr Chris Townsend on ‘The Economics of Antislavery Verse’, and Alexandra Dold on ‘Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander Novels: Representing Scotland’s Involvement in the Eighteenth-Century Transatlantic Slave Trade’ in a session on ‘Writing Enslavement’.

In a keynote discussion, Prof. Trevor Burnard, Dr Kesewa John and Dr Danielle Terrazas Williams will reflect on the (psychological, institutional, disciplinary, sectoral, cultural, national, any) contexts in which researching and sharing histories of exploitative colonial practices and their legacies now happens, and the role of the early career historian.

There will also be a walking tour of Hull’s historic old town led by Dr Nicholas Evans.

The conference is organised by the HistoryLab+ network for Early Career Historians, in partnership with the Institute of Historical Research. The Society for the Study of Labour History is pleased to provide support for this event.
