Labour History Review Volume 88 (2023), issue 2

Labour History Review Volume 88 (2023), Issue 2 has now been published.

This issue takes us from research on the processions that took place in Scotland during the agitation for Chartism and each of the Reform Acts of the nineteenth century, and of the flags, uniforms, costumes and models that accompanied them, to a study of merchant sailors as a subsection of the working class and the ways in which they integrated themselves both spatially and culturally in working-class communities of Bristol in the nineteenth century.

The issue also carries an obituary of Richard Croucher which includes an assessment not just of his work as a labour historian and teacher of industrial relations and management studies, but as a member of the generation of labour historians who emerged from the early years of the University of Warwick at the end of the 1960s.

In this issue:

  • Material Cultures of Class in Scottish Radical Processions, 1832–1884, by Sonny Angus Read more
  • Bristol Sailors in the Nineteenth Century: A Breed Apart?, by Joe Davey Read more
  • A Scholarly Life: Richard Croucher (1949–2022), by John McIlroy and Alan Campbell Read more
