Histories of Human, Animal, and Environmental Exploitation and its Legacies

The call for papers for this innovative conference on the histories of human, animal, and environmental exploitation and its legacies closes at one minute to midnight on 15 May 2024. The conference itself follows on 25-26 July 2024 at the Wilberforce Institute for the Study of Slavery and Emancipation at the University of Hull.

See the call for papers.

The conference is organised by the HistoryLab+ network for Early Career Historians, in partnership with the Institute of Historical Research, and the organisers are particularly interested in receiving proposals from early career historians relating to research that

  • applies atypical methods and/or technologies;
  • results from collaboration between job sectors or countries;
  • is interdisciplinary;
  • has attracted new audiences.

The organisers welcome paper proposals that engage with one or more of the images on the theme of historical human, animal, or environmental exploitation and its legacies shown on the Call for Papers website.

The Society for the Study of Labour History is pleased to provide support for this event.
